Significations of the Page of Wands
The Page of Wands court card comes after our first journey in the Minor Arcana Tarot pip cards, a new initiation at the school of life. We have already gained some lived experience, we have tried and tested our energy, experimented with our creative fire, and learnt about our limits over the course of the Wands suit.
Now we enter a new mini phase in which we begin to go up the ranks. We are still at the lowliest stage here, but we are eager and excited to learn. Not quite like starting from scratch, we are invited to level up and look at the world with a fresh set of eyes.

Page of Wands Tarot Meanings
The Page of Wands Minor Arcana card speaks to eagerness and excitement. It is the fresh initiation of a new cycle, one in which we already have some experience, but are now tasked to enter new territory with.
This is like moving up to the next stage in piano, or going back to school for further education. It can look like expanding your business roles or taking on a new mentor.
Whatever it may be, the Page of Wands card asks us to become a student again.
Like all the Pages, it can also signify news, opportunities, messages, and invitations coming to us- remain open to insights and offerings!
As the suit of Wands, specifically this can relate to something creative or that lights us up, it could simply be a new course of action or something that requires energy and a zest for life.
In the Smith Rider Waite Tarot deck, and many other Tarot decks, we can see a young Page earnestly looking at their budding Wand, the only one to do so directly!
In their cap, they have the feather of The Fool, a nod to the spark that is required of us. Just like The Fool is a leap into new things, the Page of Wands asks us to say yes to opportunity when it comes knocking.
Like all the Wands courts, they have the salamanders of fire on their tunic (once thought to have been born in fires).
The mountains in the background show us that the journey ahead will not be easy, but we have the whole of the Wands pips to guide us.
This Page is also the only one holding their Wand with both hands, grab life by the reins and hold on!
Page of Wands Upright Keywords
News, excitement, learning, messages, creativity, expansion, travel, fresh cycles
Generally, an upright Page of Wands is a call to look at the world with childlike wonder and see things with fresh eyes; if you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change as, they say.
When we receive the Page of Wands in a Tarot reading we are being called to follow the sparks of life that light us up, to chase after our curiosities, journey and expand, to learn, teach, educate, and become a student of life again.
It can also represent an upgrade of some kind, something in which we already have some experience in but are now entering new territory with- tasked with going from Page to King, learning the ropes again (but not totally starting from scratch, remember we have already been through all the pips at this point in the stage).
Astrology of the Page of Wands
Astrologically, the Pages represent their elemental counterparts. In this case, the Fire Signs: Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. The Fire element is fiery, obviously, and has a zest and energy for life. This is taking action and following that intuitive spark, impulsive instincts. Fire Signs have a burning flame of creativity within- what will you create?
In this, we are also tasked with learning how to harness our fires- will it burn fast and bright like Aries, Cardinal Fire (and burning out); or burning long and steady like Fixed Fire Leo (and scorch itself); or flicker like the wildfires of Sagittarius, Mutable Fire, spreading and expanding without taking hold or lasting long.
Fire can be harnessed in a torch or campfire, it can be a bonfire, the hearth, or a candle. Sometimes fire can purify and sometimes it can destruct. How we handle it is everything.
Here in the Page, most likely we have a small kindling and tinder that we are learning how to set alight and stoke our embers.
Additionally, the Pages are also considered to be Earth according to some, as they are closest to the ground in their figurative growth.
Thus, the Page of Wands is Fire of Earth. These are elementally incompatible; however, it also makes me think of baking and pottery, where we can forge something new out of mud and grain.
Numerology of the Page of Wands
Numerologically, the Pages can correspond to the number 11, a powerful master number not usually reduced. However, although this would also connect it to the Major Arcana Justice card, the courts are not usually associated numerologically as they hold their own special position in the Tarot.
Having said that, I do like the concept of the Pages being associated with master number 11 because the seed is the most powerful, it contains the imprint of the mighty oak. As humans with ovaries are already born with all the eggs they will have in their lifetimes; when you are pregnant, within your belly you hold not only all your child’s eggs should they also have ovaries, but also all your grandchildren’s!
In the Thoth Tarot, the Pages are called Princesses and seen as uniquely powerful because as they are on the lowest branch (Sefirot) of the Tree of Life (Malkuth), they are cyclically closest to the highest sphere (Kether) once the cycle is repeated.
How to Read Court Cards
Generally, the courts are said to either represent a person, situation, or facet of self. This can be someone who is influencing the question at hand, the general energy of the current circumstances, or an inner archetype you are invited to call upon.
As a person, this could be someone young, eager, and excitable with energy to spare. Often, when reading for clients, I see this simply show up as someone who brings news or a message in relation to Wands things (creativity, action, or just fresh proposals).
As a situation, the Page of Wands similarly represents eager excitability, the effervescent zest in the air on the first day back at school. You may be approaching your own personal Spring time. Or, it can be a call to harness the information and wisdom available around you.
As a facet of self, I see this as an invitation to call upon our younger selves and look to what used to bring us joy and capture our attention, to take on a beginner’s mindset, and get excited about something again. Sometimes it can be a call to go back to studying or step out into a new role within business, it can be as simple as taking a walk in nature and really paying attention; or listening to a new audio book, starting a new exercise regime, or getting the watercolours out!
