The Six of Wands Meaning

The Six of Wands Minor Arcana card is a happy, triumphant card of victory, success, and celebration. It typically denotes tooting our own horn and embracing festivities with those who helped us achieve success. As with all Tarot cards, however, it does also come with caveats and warnings.

Read on for a full Tarot card description including its Astrological and Numerological correspondences as well as what it can mean if it shows up for you as a reversal and in a general, career, or love reading:

Six of Wands Tarot Card Meanings

After the disruption, instability, and confrontation of the Five of Wands, we have finally reached a moment of achievement and satisfaction. As the cards depict a storyline, if we take heed the messaging of the Five to not fall victim to petty ego battles and seek a wiser maturity, we can come out on the other side in the Six victorious.

The Six of Wands is a call to celebration, to pat ourselves on the back for a job well done, and revel in our accomplishments.

With this card I’m also always reminded of who put that laurel wreath on our head, who crowned us victorious? In this, we get to define what “success” looks and feels like to us. Either way, when it shows up for us, it is a welcome message to allow ourselves a moment of pride.

Of course, in this we must always remain humble and give credit where credit is due! After all, we are marching in a victory parade here, we are not alone. As a thread that weaves the cards together, we can look to the Seven next for an omen of what may happen if we let this success go to our heads- our teammates may turn on us and we may feel like we need to defend ourselves.

We can see in the Smith Rider Waite Tarot deck, and many other Tarot decks, that the figure is riding a horse with not only a laurel wreath on their head but also their wand; the horse is draped in green. To me these two images connect to the natural success of the land, our innate talents and things we are naturally good at. We don’t need to have won a Nobel Prize to be proud of ourselves!

As any entrepreneur will tell you, it’s important to celebrate all the wins, including (and especially) the small ones; it’s those that keep you going.

When the Six of Wands appears in a reading, we can take it as an invitation to relish in our accomplishments and hard work, to share our wins, and bask in a sense of pride. One of the most jovial of the Wands Tarot cards— blow your own horn!

Six of Wands Upright Keywords

Success, accomplishment, victory, pride, achievement, celebration, praise, satisfaction

Generally, an upright Six of Wands represents a free pass to revel in the all the good you’ve accomplished, to look back at how far you’ve come and what you have achieved. It is cause for feeling into a sense of victory and satisfaction, no matter what that looks like to anybody else! You get to decide what’s worth putting on a parade for.

Astrologically, this is a Jupiter in Leo card, bold expansion. Jolly Jupiter is the Planet of growth, abundance, and optimism; Leo is the Sign of fun, creation, and self-centring. Combined, they are an uplifting, bolstering influence! Jupiter is a more is more Planet, Leo is all about playfulness, shining, and self-expression. Simply put, this is one hell of a party!

Numerologically, the number 6 is a harmonious, balanced number. In the Tarot they can represent nostalgia, generosity, and even bittersweetness. The message here is to enjoy what’s here for you now and to find the pockets of joy wherever possible. Sometimes I look to the sixes as developments or helper cards to the threes.

Sometimes we need to be our own biggest cheerleader, the Six of Wands is your invitation to do so!

This also connects it to Major Arcana card The Lovers, a reflection of the sentiment echoed above in questioning who has defined you as “victorious”? What does it mean to be “successful” or “unsuccessful” to you? The Lovers is a reminder to check in with where we are seeking our validation from, whether internally or externally. Remember, you don’t need anyone’s permission to celebrate yourself; and don’t forget to first and foremost always choose yourself.

All the 6s represent some kind of harmony or achievement. In the Pentacles we are at a comfortable financial place; in the Swords we are moving on to new mental narratives; and in the Cups we are filling up our childhood and communal cups. Here in the Wands card we are giving ourselves permission to share in our joy and accomplishments.
