WHERE ARE THE MOST DELICIOUS CAFES IN BALI

We LOVE food, and Bali is one of the best places for it! In this post we’re going to highlight the 13 most delicious cafes and restaurants we visited in Ubud, Canggu and Uluwatu that had not only the healthiest food but are also super Instagrammable.

Although the food itself is the most important aspect for us, a pretty location is of course also a plus for our photography. Luckily, in Bali these 2 things often go hand in hand. Price is also a factor and whilst Bali cafes can sometimes be slightly more expensive than other South East Asian countries, they are still far far cheaper than what we would pay in Europe, and the portion sizes are also usually quite generous (which is another big plus for our greedy stomachs haha). Reading the menus there every day were honestly a genuine treat for me, especially if you’re into veganism and/or ayurvedic cooking- I was so excited at all the interesting ingredients, such as adaptogens, and unique combinations.

As you are literally spoilt for choice in Bali, it can be quite daunting sometimes to know where to begin, so we condensed our favourite dining experiences into one super list for you, read on to find out about our TOP 13 places to eat at that we still dream about in Ubud, Canggu and Uluwatu:

THE BEST restaurants IN UBUD

If you go to Bali, it’s likely that you’ll pass through Ubud at some point, and with good reason! This uber spiritual, beautifully lush jungle truly does have a bit of magic in it. We really loved exploring in and around the Ubud area, and a lot of your time will be spent exploring the outskirts of Ubud because of all its amazing nature and cultural points of interest (hello Tirta Empul). Because of this, it can become a bit difficult deciding on where to eat in the centre of Ubud as it can become a bit touristy by comparison. Below are our top 4 favourite restaurants we found that were the perfect combination of delicious food and gorgeous setting:

  1. Bridges - Absolutely perfect for a romantic evening! This is THE place to go to for stunning scenery and view. Aptly named, it’s perched on top of Ubud’s beautiful bridge running over the main river. It’s pretty luxurious dining but the prices are decent, expect to pay minimum £5/95IDR per person per dish for lunch, you can also get a 6 course lunch or dinner tasting menu from about £20 a head, including vegetarian options. It’s open daily from 11am-11:30pm.

  2. Sayan House - Go here, again, for a beautiful view overlooking palm tree forests and interesting architecture and design! The menu is also super interesting, creating a fusion between South American and Japanese cuisine- say what? The premise behind this combination is that although on a map they’re located on opposite sides, on a globe, they’re next to each other. With this line of reasoning, their local ingredients naturally lend themselves well to each other, and we can confirm it! You’ll be eating the likes of sushi tacos and sake margaritas, yum. Again, this is slightly pricier than normal but we really enjoyed our experience here above and beyond other places we went to in Ubud, you could save it, like we did, for a special treat (on my 30th birthday). Expect to pay from about £10/190IDR per person. Open daily from 12pm-11pm.

  3. Soma - Based in the heart of Ubud, this place is like a secret oasis that’s a natural respite from what can sometimes be the hecticness of Ubud centre. This is a gorgeous ayurvedic restaurant with really interesting ingredient combinations and healthy adaptogenic drinks, and it is all super delicious. This was one of our favourite places we ate at, and highly recommend if you go anywhere- go here! Seriously, the menu was so good we had a hard time picking! Mains start from about £2.50/45IDR. Open daily from 8am-10pm.

  4. Casa Luna- Go here if you fancy eating some absolutely delicious local Bali food. With lots of plants and a really central location, it makes for an easy stop off to fill you up with some good food at a good price point. Starting from £2.5/50IDR, open daily from 8am-11pm.

THE MOST INSTAGRAMMABLE cafes IN CANGGU

Ahhh the famous cafes of Canggu! You may have heard about how delicious, healthy and Instagrammable they are, and with good reason! They really are as yummy, clean and beautiful as legend has it. With so many to choose from- where to begin?! To be perfectly honest, you can’t really go wrong here, almost anywhere you eat along Pantai Batu Bolong is going to be good. We tried A LOT of Canggu cafes and while there are soo many that were delicious and good-looking, we’ve managed to condense them down to our absolute top 5 favourites:

  1. Shady Shack - Renowned for its breakfast options, this place is seriously SO tasty. Surrounded by greenery on a lovely backstreet of Canggu, Shady Shack really hits all our spots. Again, the menu is so good, we had difficulty choosing! Filled with uber healthy ingredients, such as spirulina and maca, prices start at £3.5/65IDR, its opening hours are from 8:30am-11pm.

  2. Crate - This is THE place to go to for great value for money and delicious food with great portion sizes! Featuring all of your favourite classics, such as smashed avo, this is an awesome hotspot to sit altogether in the great Canggu outdoors. Prices start from £3/50IDR and is open daily from 6am-5pm.

  3. Essential - I LOVED this place because I’m (not so) low-key obsessed with essential oils. As soon as you arrive, you’ll be presented with a refreshing face mist and 3 options to add into your rosemary-infused triple filtered spring water (Detox, Digest, Energy)- how’s that for health conscious?! This is a fairly new place, set on a lovely quiet side street, it’s got a super cute English conservatory inspired feel to it. The portions were slightly on the smaller side for us but we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Prices start from £4/80IDR and is open daily from 8am-10pm.

  4. Nude - Another oldie but goodie, Nude has simple but interesting simple healthy food in a clean aesthetic setting and is also a great option for breakfast too! Prices start from about £3.5/70IDR and is open daily from 7am-10pm.

  5. Vida - This is a super cool organic ayurvedic restaurant that cooks in non-aluminum pots with triple filtered spring water. Featuring health shots galore, this was another one where I LOVED reading the menu and had a hard time picking what to eat! Prices start from £4/75IDR a head and is open daily from 8am-11pm. It features a peaceful atmosphere with an internal courtyard so you’re off the main road a bit. Note that if you’re planning on coming here for a (delicious) coffee and then co-working all day, this is not allowed (we’re not sure if this is explicitly allowed at other places, although we imagine it shouldn’t be a problem somewhere like Shady or Crate, there was a sign specifying this here).

Other honourable mentions are Kynd (especially for their ice cream) which is especially awesome for your Instagram feed, and Peloton Supershop. These are arguably some of the most famous healthy eating spots in Bali (or even Indonesia)!

THE MOST DELICIOUS cafes IN ULUWATU

We highly recommend coming to Uluwatu for the chilled island vibes. Although it’s not actually an island, it feels a bit that way, maybe because there’s less traffic. Also, if you’re looking for baby blue water then this is where you want to be! Along with Canggu, Uluwatu was definitely our most favourite place for food in Bali, they had equally as beautiful and delicious offerings. Again, we loved every place we visited, but for now, we’ve condensed our top 4 favourite dining experiences for you as follows:

  1. Bukit Cafe - This was hands down the best all-rounder. Every food option on offer is absolutely DELICIOUS here, plus its super cute and simple island-vibes shack put us immediately in a good mood. Prices start from £4.5/85IDR per main course, they’re open daily from 7am-10pm.

  2. The Place With No Name - This place has a lovely beachy decor and we had the BEST fish burritos of our life here! But, again, all of their healthy food options were delicious. Prices start from £4/77IDR and they open daily from 7:30am-10pm.

  3. Drifter Surf - This place is SO COOL. We had the best chocolate peanut butter smoothie of our lives (haha can you spot a theme with our love for hyperboles and the food in Bali yet?) and the shop attached to it is super cool to wander around and spend a pretty penny too. Allllll of the food here was, yet again, really delicious. Prices start from about £4/75IDR per main and they’re open daily from 6:30am-10pm.

  4. Suka Espresso - And finally, Suka has a really great poke bowl and coffee and also, surprise surprise, the “best” vegan brownie we’ve ever had in our lives hahah I promise I’m not making this up, we truly stuffed our faces in Bali and loved every second of it. They also do really great traditional Balinese food here such as Nasi Goreng. Prices start from £3/60IDR per main and they’re open from 7:30am-10pm daily.

Honourable mention: Dreamsea Surf. This place is so beautiful and vibey. Set in the cliffside facing the beach, the white-washed reclaimed wood and canvas umbrellas are the stuff dreams are made of (pun intended). While the menu was good we slightly preferred it elsewhere, and the service was a tiny bit slow but it is still really delicious and SO worth coming here just for the setting alone!

Honestly, we think you can’t really go too wrong for food in Uluwatu either wherever you end up. All over Bali there were also lots of times where we randomly stopped off at hole-in-the-wall type places for some traditional Balinese food too which is equally just as delicious but sadly so local we don’t have names or website info for (although these are not Instagram-worthy which is potentially why you’re also reading this post, right?), but definitely don’t hold back on trying these too!
