The Best Gems For Zodiac Signs
Each Zodiac Sign of the Astrological wheel is said to have specific gemstones and crystals that are best aligned with its characteristics, but before we get into the list, let’s briefly look at what exactly the difference is between gems and crystals. While the two terms are often used interchangeably they are distinct, to put it simply- some gems can be crystals, but crystals cannot be gems. A crystal is a mineral whose internal system repeats itself in a fixed, precise geometric pattern. There are 7 main internal crystals systems and 32 subgroup classes. A gem is also known as a precious or semi-precious stone, whose classification goes back to Ancient Greek times, and are generally considered rarer and thus more valuable than crystals.
In modern times, there are only 4 known specific precious stones, these are: Diamond, Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. All other gemstones are semi-precious stones, of which there are said to be over 300. While the terminology “precious” and “semi-precious” can imply that semi-precious stones are of inferior value than precious stones, this is certainly not the case at all.
There is also a list of 9 gemstones/crystals used in Ancient Indian culture called “Navaratna”, meaning “9 gems” in Sanskrit, based off of the 9 traditional Planets. They are usually arranged in jewellery with Ruby for the Sun in the centre, surrounded by Pearl for the Moon, Emerald for Mercury, Diamond for Venus, Red Coral for Mars, Yellow Sapphire for Jupiter, Blue Sapphire for Saturn, Hessonite for Rahu (the North Node), and Cat’s Eye for Ketu (the South Node). So this is another way to incorporate Astrological gems and crystals into your life.
Because of their rarity and value, it is generally precious and semi-precious stones that are used in fine jewellery, however, with the growing interest in crystals for their purported healing capabilities, these are becoming more and more common in jewellery too.
Birthstones for each Zodiac Sign are usually based off of the months in which the Sign falls and use actual gemstones, however, there is also a larger number of recommended crystals for each Zodiac Sign based on their properties as well, so I will list all of them for a more comprehensive list- read on below to find out your personal Zodiac stones!
Zodiac Sign Gemstones
When picking your Zodiac stone, you can go with the one that calls your attention in the list of your Sun (star) Sign, or, if you know the other elements of your Natal Chart, you can choose one based off of your Moon Sign, Rising Sign etc. You can also work with Elements you might be lacking in or want to strengthen, for example, if you have an abundance of Fire Signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) in your Chart and would like to “cool” yourself down, you can work with some Water Element crystals (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces).
Or, you can go with the crystals of the Zodiac Season you’re currently in to align yourself with the cosmos throughout the year. If you prefer, you can also check out our list of the 13 best crystals for beginners for more of a general starting point of what to have in your repertoire.
Different days of the week are also associated with a different ruling Planet, so you can also work with the crystals of its Zodiac Sign on different days. Monday is the Moon’s day, Tuesday is associated with the god of War, Mars. Wednesday is Mercury’s day, Thursday is assigned to jolly Jupiter, Friday is beautiful Venus’ day of love (date night anyone?), Saturday is assigned to taskmaster Saturn, and Sunday is, of course, the Sun’s day. These can all also make great gift ideas if you know someone’s date of birth.
Remember, when working with crystals and other esoteric practices, there is no hard-and-fast rule, so you can always use your intuition when choosing if something doesn’t resonate 100% with you- whatever crystal or gemstone you are drawn to is exactly what you need in that moment!
