Unlock Your Year’s Potential with Annual Profections

Annual Profections is a Hellenistic Astrology technique used for forecasting a theme and area of focus for your Solar year (birthday to birthday), as well as a Planet that is more influential for you (your so-called Timelord), based on your Birth Chart and age.

It is basically a way of “profecting”, or moving forward, your Rising Sign every birthday! You can also profect your main luminary of sect (the Sun for Day Charts and Moon for Night Charts) for more detail.

How To Calculate Your Annual Profection Year

Starting with your Rising Sign as the 1st year of life (so age 0) in the 1st House of an Astrology wheel, cycle through a House per year in Zodiacal order (anti-clockwise) until you reach your current age.

Using the Annual Profections wheel below is a quick and easy way to see which Profection House you will be in based on how old you are (which are the numbers in the concentric circles), and which corresponding House will be in focus for you based on your Rising Sign.

If you know your House Sign placements off the top of your head, you will know which Zodiac Sign that House falls in, and which will be the activated timelord Planet for you for the year.

Interpreting Your Annual Profection

The first step is locating your age in the Chart above. Then, once you have that, take your Rising Sign as the first House and cycle through in Zodiacal order to find your current Annual Profection Year.

The order of the Zodiac Signs are Aries - Taurus - Gemini - Cancer - Leo - Virgo - Libra - Scorpio - Sagittarius - Capricorn - Aquarius - Pisces. The first year of life is your Rising Sign, the following year you move into a 2nd House Profection year and so on. Every 12 years you will come back to a 1st House Annual Profection year (aka your Rising Sign).

For example, if you are an Aries Rising, when you were 6 years old you were in a 7th House Profection year in Libra, as well as at 18 years old, 30 years old etc.

Once you know the Sign your Profection Year is in, you will know your Time Lord for the year. This Planet because extra important for you because transits and aspects to or from this Planet are heightened. Any Planets you have in your Annual Profection House also become activated as Timelord!

For example, let’s say you are in a Venus Profection year (aka a Taurus or Libra Annual Profection year), wherever your Natal Venus is becomes highlighted, as well as where transit Venus currently is in the sky.

Once you have your Zodiac Sign theme and Timelord, the final layer is to add in the House themes.

Traditional Ruling Planet

The Sun is the ruler of Leo
The Moon is the ruler of Cancer
Mercury is the ruler of Gemini and Virgo
Venus is the ruler of Taurus and Libra
Mars is the ruler of Aries and Scorpio
Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius and Pisces
Saturn is the ruler of Capricorn and Aquarius

So as an example, let’s say you are a 34-year old Virgo Rising. This will mean you are in a 10th House Profection year (like all 34-year olds) in Gemini (like all 34-year old Virgo Risings) with Mercury as your Timelord. You may expect career and Virgoan themes to be highlighted.

You would then look to any Planets you have in the 10th House as they would also be activated, and where your Natal Mercury is for more information— including your Gemini House! Then, where Mercury is transiting for you may be felt more strongly, including its Retrogrades.

Sun Profection Year
When we are in a Solar Profection year (aka a Leo Profection Year), we may deal with themes of visibility, leadership, recognition, creation, gold, authority, celebrities, royalty, children, ego, entertainment, and play. It can be a good time to get more creative and have more fun! Let yourself shine and get your image out there.
Moon Profection Year
When we are in a Lunar Profection Year (aka a Cancer Profection Year) we may have heightened sensitivity in the body and feel our emotions more. We may deal with themes of nourishment, home, family, and the mother archetype.
Mercury Profection Year
When we are in a Mercury Profection year (aka a Gemini or Virgo Profection Year) we may deal with themes of communication, learning, messaging, travel, data, analytics, translating, divination, commerce, business, change, friendship, writing, and trade. Network and express yourself!
Venus Profection Year
When we are in a Venus Profection Year (aka a Taurus or Libra Profection Year), we may feel a pull towards beauty, love, luxury, indulgence, or paying extra attention to our finances, values, and aesthetics. Relationships, sex, and romance may also be spotlighted. As Venus finds her “joy” in the 5th House, it can feel similar to a 5th House Annual Profection year!

Mars Profection Year
When we are in a Mars Profection Year (aka an Aries or Scorpio Profection Year), we may be dealing with themes of protection, competition, sports, combat or combativeness, ambition, drive, ego, energy, fighting or arguments, and achievement. Mars years may be more challenging for Day Charts, but like everything also depends on the nature of your own Natal Mars! If you have a domiciled Mars with harmonious aspects it can be more constructive.
Jupiter Profection Year
During Jupiter Profection Years (aka in a Sagittarius or Pisces Annual Profection Year), we may deal with themes of learning, teaching, spirituality, a sense of growth, expansion, and optimism, our morals, values, justice, law, judges, indulgence, and sense of purpose.

Saturn Profection Year
When we are in a Saturn Annual Profection Year (aka during a Capricorn or Aquarius Profection Year) we may deal with themes of structure, boundaries, hard work, integrity, challenge, striving, dedication, discipline, solitude, protection, minimising, and separation. Again, the nature of it will depend on your own personal Natal Chart, it may feel more difficult for Night Charts but as usual is mitigated when domiciled etc.
As Saturn finds its joy in the 12th House, I have often found with my clients that Saturn Profection Years can feel similar, focussing on introspection.
