What To Know About The Nodes Moving into the Pisces Virgo axis

One of the defining Astrological features of 2025 is the Lunar Nodes moving into the Virgo-Pisces axis, where they will stay from January 11th 2025 until July 26th 2026 (although the story will continue posthumously until 2027)!

Collectively the Nodes can point to places of increase and hunger (North Node specifically) and points of lessening and decrease (South Node). Where they are transiting in your Natal Chart can also point to areas of major change, endings, and new beginnings (in the wise words of the great Chris Brennan).

What Are The Nodes?

The Nodes of the Moon are physical points in space where the Moon’s orbit intersects the the ecliptic (the apparent path of the Sun). They move backwards through the Zodiac and stay in each Sign for 18 months, completing a cycle every 18 years. You can look back to then for clues about this one!

Every 9 years there is a reverse Nodal return, i.e. 9 years ago it was a Pisces South Node and the North Node was in Virgo (whereas now the North Node is entering Pisces and the South Node is entering Virgo). It can also be useful to look back then for echoes as this is the same House axis being highlighted in your Birth Chart.

Where the Nodes are point to a collective theme/backdrop/storyline/energy for its duration of their transit through a Sign, when they change Signs we can feel this shift.

When we have a personal Nodal Return, or reverse Nodal Return— every 18 and 9 years respectively— it’s like a check-in for our personal alignment in life, a chance to integrate the lessons we’ve learned over these past years (occurring at roughly 9, 18, 27, 36, 42-years old and so on). They can be times of evolving priorities, growth, learning, letting go, and readjustment to enter a truer sense of self.

Nodes and the Eclipses

As the Nodes are the point in space where the Sun and Moon are aligned, when a New Moon (Sun and Moon conjunct) or Full Moon (Sun and Moon opposing one another) occurs close enough to the Nodes they are perfectly lined up for the appearance of an Eclipse (Solar or Lunar respectively).

Because a New Moon or Full Moon simply needs to happen close enough to the Nodes (roughly within about 17 degrees), we can get an Eclipse in a Zodiac Sign before or after the Nodes changing Signs.

For example, on September 17th 2024 we had a Lunar Eclipse in Pisces— although the Nodes were still in the Aries-Libra axis, the Full Moon in Pisces occurred close enough to them to appear as an Eclipse; thus acting like a preview teaser trailer of the season we are now officially in with the Nodes entering the Virgo-Pisces axis from January 11th 2025.

We will also get a post-credits wrap-up from the previous cycle with a final Solar Eclipse in Aries in March 2025 (even though the Nodes have already moved on). This cycle also began with one-foot-in-one-foot-out. The Nodes officially entered the Aries-Libra axis in July 2023 but we had a preview teaser trailer with a Solar Eclipse in Aries in April 2023 while the Nodes were still in the Taurus-Scorpio axis)!

Thus, Eclipses are peak chapters in the over-arching 18-month story. Each Eclipse comes in pairs, with a Solar and Lunar Eclipse each season.

There are usually about 4 Eclipses a year, 6-8 Eclipses in the whole story. The first pair is like setting the stage and opening of the story; by the time the next pair rolls around six months later we are usually a little clearer about what this Nodal story means for us; and by the last instalment 6 months after that it is usually a wrapping up and winding down in the storyline in this area of life.

During Eclipse season the general energy can feel a little chaotic or unstable— Mercury retrogradey. The Astrological House in which the Nodes are moving through for us personally (based on our Rising Sign using Whole Sign Houses) will dictate in which area of life we may experience this (scroll down to find yours)!

Meaning of the North Node

In ancient times when all of life was dictated by the Sun and Moon, before electricity, Eclipses were treated with caution. With the light of our precious life-giving Sun or harvesting Moon blocked out, ill omens (namely for public figures) were predicted.

The North Node was associated as a Dragon’s Head, eating the luminaries. It was seen as a place of hungry appetite. In our Natal Charts it can show us where we may be insatiable, as well as where we can grow towards.

When it is transiting an area of our Natal Chart (House), we can expect a growth in themes and activity here (more on that below).

Meaning of the South Node

Similarly, the South Node was associated with the “Dragon’s Tail” and thus a point of lessening and decrease, purge and release. When the transiting South Node is on top of one of our personal placement (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Ascendant), it can bring a sense of depletion, lethargy, or exhaustion.

Where the South Node is in our Natal Charts is said to show us areas we are comfortable in and naturally default to, as well as tendencies we may fall back on that are less constructive.

Nodes in the Virgo-Pisces Axis

Collectively, with a transiting Pisces North Node and Virgo South Node, we can hope to see an increase in positive Piscean iterations and decrease in less constructive Virgoan characteristics. This could be an increase in empathy, intuition, spirituality, creativity, and selflessness; and a decrease in hypercriticism, nitpicking, over-analysis, worry, and hypochondria.

However, sometimes we see a collective increase in the less constructive qualities of both, which would additionally include an increase in escapism, avoidance, victim mentality, martyrdom, enmeshment, and spiritual bypassing.

Often it can simply be an increase in general related themes, so a focus on health, wellness, discernment, facts, figures, data, sensitivity, boundaries, art, medicine, animal welfare, crafts, editing, harvesting, and daydreaming.

Here’s what all of the Zodiac Signs can expect personally:

Aries/Libra Risings

Phew, you can breathe a sigh of relief, the Nodes are moving out of your 1st House/7th House! You and your personal relationships have likely undergone some MAJOR change since April 2023!

Now, the Nodes are moving into your 12th House/6th House axis highlighted themes between work-life balance, physical and mental health, and any patterns of self-undoing.

This can be a good time to implement new rituals, habits, and routines that support your wellbeing inside and out— on a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual level. Exploring the realms of your inner psyche, dreams, and subconscious is also well-suited now! If you have the capacity to go to a retreat or be of service in some way it is well-aspected now. It can also be a good time to get a pet! Either way, your sleep comes into focus.

Taurus/Scorpio Risings

For you, Aries and Libra is your 11th House/5th House axis, thus themes of friendship, community, groups, memberships, alliances, networking, hopes and wishes, the collective; and sense of creativity and creative output, joy, pleasure, sex and sexuality, hobbies and pastimes, and children or related themes (such as inner child) will become relevant— enjoy! This is certainly the most fun and social House axis to have a Nodal transit in!

(Using Whole Sign Houses, this is also potentially where your Midheaven-IC line may be and so themes of career, reputation, vocation, life path, recognition, legacy, and home, family, upbringing, ancestry, and story of origin may be relevant if this is the case for you).

Gemini/Sagittarius Risings

For you this will call in to question themes between lineage and legacy, the balance between private and public life; your career, vocation, purpose, profession, professional image, recognition, and things relating to your home and family, origin story, childhood upbringing, parental figures, important people from your past.

Along with a 1st House/7th House Nodal transit, a 10th House/4th House transit is the second-most important we can go through! This is a foundational pillar of your Chart and so for you, being the other Mutable Signs along with Virgo and Pisces, these next 18 months are likely to still be quite significant for you!

Cancer/Capricorn Risings

For you Aries and Libra represent your 9th and 3rd Houses, thus themes of higher education, learning, spirituality, travel, foreigners and exotic cultures, religion, Astrology, beliefs, worldview, personal philosophy, and publishing; as well as communication, self-expression, mindset and mentality, early childhood learning experience, divination, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and local neighbourhood may be relevant for you these months!

This could look something like taking up a new craft or writing a book, learning a new skill, going abroad or expanding your horizons, either way it can be an expansive time!

Leo/Aquarius Risings

For you this is a 2nd House/8th House transit and so you can expect a change in your personal resources, income, finances, values, spending habits, savings, diet, skills, talents, and self-worth; and investments, taxes, grants, debt, inheritance (literal or figurative), emotional boundaries, intergenerational stories and trauma, healing, and transformation.

This can be quite literal like starting a new joint venture or your partner’s finances change; or can be more esoteric depth psychology and cycles of life, death, and rebirth.

You also have Pluto transiting your 7th House/1st House axis so you may appreciate reading my article on Pluto in Aquarius too!

Virgo/Pisces Risings

You can expect MAJOR identity changes and how you relate to others and show up in the world, particularly in your intimate relationships. Get ready, a 1st House/7th House Nodal transit is one of the most transformative we can have!

During this time Virgo and Pisces Risings may come into a stronger sense of self and identity, a shedding of old layers and outdated ways of being. You may also feel more tired, depleted, or exhausted than usual (or your partner might).

Similarly, this can be a time when many Virgo and Pisces Risings meet their partners or deepen their intimate relationships, it can be a time of experimentation, marriage, or breakups and divorce. The focus is on love to others and self-love. You might drastically change the course of your life, or just feel more like yourself (by the end of it, when we’re in the thick of it it can be hard to see through the fog).
