Finding Your Perfect Astrologer: A Complete Guide

Finding the right Astrologer for you is an extremely important topic! Not only for when choosing to invest in a session, but even just for who to follow on social media. As a popular subject, there are many options out there! So how do you choose who to listen to?

My main advice is to use a combination of internal and external proof. So internal would be your own intuition— is this person a vibe match for you? Do they feel like someone you would like to take life advice from in general?

Externally things you can look out for are: reviews or testimonials; the number years of study and professional practice they’ve had (and where/with whom!); how competent they are in talking in-depth on the subject beyond social media posts (such as on blog posts, podcasts, or longer videos on YouTube); and lastly— how much they charge. If it’s too low or under the average going rate they may not value their own services and neither should you! Someone respected in their industry with years of experience (and happy customers!) would charge their worth. That said, you might be happy with someone who costs less if you simply resonate with them!

Here’s each point broken down into a little bit more detail to help you on your search:

How To Find The Best Astrologer For You

1. Their vibe is aligned with yours — The most important one imo! You can go to the best Astrologer in the world but if the way they deliver messages doesn’t resonate with you then it’s just not gonna stick! Trust your gut here. At the end of the day a lot of times the reason we go to an Astrologer is to learn more about ourselves and our path, to come out with a sense of being witnessed and supported.

I’ve seen Astrologers who are less technically proficient or advanced than others but with a great capacity for connecting with people and providing them with healing. You can also decide what you want here! So maybe you do want someone who is more technically advanced but with less people skills or sensitivity.

You might also like to check in with their values and how they view the world, and if their style of practice is the type of Astrology you are interested in (e.g. Tropical vs Sidereal, or Evolutionary vs Traditional Astrology).

2. They have experience — Not everyone is interested in going to an Astrologer that has had over 10 years experience or read for thousands of clients necessarily, but it can be useful to check that they have at least a few years of both private study and professional practice, and a few hundred clients if possible. This helps their insight be based on real-world observations (rather than something they read in passing online or had experience with one person with). But again, tip number 1 still wins out if you really just connect with someone’s energy!

Bonus points for them citing their own mentors, teachers, and where they get their insight from (including if that be from experience with clients).

3. They have social proof — This can come in the form of reviews, feedback, and testimonials, followers on social media, and features in reputable publications. This isn’t strictly necessary because somebody else’s experience won’t guarantee yours, but it can help show what to potentially expect. Word-of-mouth is my favourite form of referral!

4. They can talk in-depth on the subject — It can be useful to go beyond social media and check if they can create long-form articles, videos, or podcasts. Content is synthesised and simplified for social media, it can be hard at times to convey the true depth of wisdom someone has on there. Checking that your Astrologer can explain complex theories and models simply can also be useful not only for ensuring they understand the topic but also that they are able to share it with you well!

Within this, some basic catchall terms I would pay attention to are if they say Mercury is “in” retrograde (rather than Mercury is retrograde), or if they dramatise “5 Planets being retrograde!” when speaking of solely the transpersonal Planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) as these are retrograde for half the year and so not of much note (except on the first week of their retrograde and direct station). Dramatisation in general can also be something you might like to avoid— the point of an Astrology reading is to come away feeling EMPOWERED, not anxious.

5. Their pricing reflects their services — The highest price is not necessarily the best, but it can be useful to gauge what is the average market range to ascertain whether someone is charging a fair price in exchange for their work. Astrology takes years of personal study and professional experience to understand deeply, as well as hundreds of hours and money spent on books, courses, podcasts, and articles.

In a session, there is not only the intellectual component but also a profound emotional and spiritual component too— a lot of energy goes into them! Someone with years of experience with happy clients would reflect this in their prices (without exaggerating). That’s not to say someone who is charging lower is necessarily off-limits, we all have to start somewhere! But if it’s like $50 then it may not be ideal. Also timing can be useful to factor in— a good session typically needs at least an hour to get all the key information out with time for your own questions.

6. Their availability — Again, this is not necessarily a dealbreaker, but can help when making your decision. Someone who is in popular demand and has at least a couple of weeks waiting list/turnaround may be reflected in the quality of their work.

7. Optional: their age — This is not important for some people, but some may like to go to someone who is at least in their 30s (aka post-Saturn Return integration period). Obviously, there are some 20-year-olds with more maturity than 50-year-olds, but there is also some wisdom that only comes with age. Some people also appreciate going to Astrologers who are roughly their own age or older for this similar “life experience” reason.
