What The Nodes Moving Into Taurus And Scorpio Means
The Nodes are physical points in space, not planetary bodies, that represent where the orbit path of the Sun and Moon would seemingly intersect on the ecliptic from our vantage point on Earth. When they are perfectly aligned is when we get the Eclipses (see image below).
The Nodes of the Moon shift backwards through the Zodiac roughly every 18 months, this means that for almost two years we get to explore the themes collectively of those two Signs. This cycle is repeated roughly every 18 years (reflecting similar patterns in our lives and history you can return back to for past context).
The North Node is the point of increase. It represents the “dragon’s mouth” from Hellenistic Astrology, and is what we are hungry for, what we will see a focus of attention on. In the Natal Chart, the North Node can point to areas of growth and personal development for us, aspects we came here to learn and step into.
The South Node, on the other hand, represents the “dragon’s tail”, this is the point of decrease. With the South Node there is a point of lessening, of moving away from that energy collectively, or at least from the shadow qualities of the Sign (if we are moving in alignment). In the birth chart, it can show us areas we are comfortable in, what our natural default is, how we are inclined to show up in the world and operate from.
It represents skills and ways of being we are already good at and have at our disposal, and how we can elevate the positive side and not fall back into the darker aspects, or solely operate from this place and experience no growth.

Being on opposite sides of the ecliptic, they naturally fall in the polarity Signs, or axis. These are:
Aries - Libra
Taurus - Scorpio
Gemini - Sagittarius
Cancer - Capricorn
Leo - Aquarius
Virgo - Pisces
Taurus North Node, Scorpio South Node
Before we move onto the current nodal axis let’s see where we have come from. From May 5th 2020 until January 18th 2021 we had the South Node in Sagittarius and the North Node in Gemini. This is the axis of information, communication, social media, truth, and travel. The last time they were here was from 2001-2003 (another period when travel was significantly decreased).
Sagittarius is the explorer and philosopher of the Zodiac, on a constant quest for truth, adventure, and learning. Being in the South Node, we would expect to see a decrease in these themes; and I think it’s safe to say that these certainly weren’t years when we were travelling! It also forced millions of people to contend with online learning, general concepts of education, as well as issues with media, ideologies, and beliefs- 9th House topics.
In its shadow side, Sagittarius can be the preacher, too eager to impose its dogmatic opinions on others without listening to external views. It can also be too focussed on the bigger picture eschewing the details or fact-checking.
As with all Signs, a balance is key. Both are different energies of the same coin and are necessary in healthy doses.

Gemini is the the analyst and communicator, ruled by quick-thinking Mercury, it gathers up all the data from its surroundings in a constant, never-ending churning and fact-finding mission. In excess, this can lead to over-thinking and nervousness or anxiety.
It represents all forms of communication, expression, and messages; from how we take in and process information and where we receive it from, to how we then communicate it in return and through which medium (3rd House topics). It also deals with the local environment, more comfortable staying close to home in its neighbourhood and with what it is familiar (including knowledge) than venturing (or branching) out. There was certainly an increase in media consumption and local community in these years too!
Being in two Mutable Signs, there was a lot of change and things in flux.
North Node in Taurus
Taurus is a Yin, Fixed Earth Sign ruled by Venus. It is sturdy, grounded, and reliable. It strongly values quality over quantity and relishes in the finer things in life, it knows the power of indulgence. A lover of good food, wine, fabrics, and sensual pleasures, Taurus is a truly fertile Sign. Everything about it is luscious and fecund, falling in the middle of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere, the land reflects this.
It also emphasises safety, security, and stability, and being ruled by Venus, is a double whammy money Sign. They say insurance was invented by a Taurus. Being associated with the 2nd House, this also translates into our values- what is it that we value, not only in order to buy but also self-worth and confidence, as well as beauty standards and concepts of morals, ethics, and love.
With the North Node moving into Taurus, we can expect to see an increase in matters relating to money, financial structures, property and housing, farming and land preservation, as well as climate issues. The shadow qualities of Taurus can be overly rigid or slow to changes, as well as too much importance placed on material qualities. In its highest expression, we can reclaim true self-care and the pleasures of being alive on this bountiful Mother Earth. A sublime opulence for all.
There can be an increased focus on cryptocurrencies, NFTs, and other alternative financial systems aiming to democratise and distribute wealth accessibility; as well as climate activism, restructuring the way in which we treat the land, rethinking models of growth and sustainability, and how we relate to food. As well as a call for simpler, paired back living, going back to our roots. Connecting to abundance and reality will be crucial.
All of these may also come in sudden and unexpected ways due to Uranus, the maverick Planet of upheaval, also in Taurus until 2025.
South Node in Scorpio
Scorpio is a Yin, Fixed Water Sign ruled by Mars traditionally, and Pluto in modern Astrology. It is the alchemist of the Zodiac, concerned with intimacy and transformation. It is deep and penetrating, a reserved Sign that has no time for superficiality.
Its higher symbol is the snake, representative of its ability to shed and transmute, and its elevated symbol is the Phoenix (or sometimes eagle), representing its ability to rise from the ashes. Its capacity to create those ashes is indicative of its modern ruler, Pluto, the Planet of power and destruction. Its traditional ruler, Mars, reflects its perseverance and determination. In its shadow side, this can veer into compulsion, obsession, jealousy, and possessiveness.
With the South Node in Scorpio, we can hope to see a lessening of these shadow qualities, of manipulation tactics and the need to grasp and hold onto control. Of codependency and instead a movement towards a healthy interdependence. We may learn to truly be comfortable with and embrace change.
Scorpio also deals with intensity, shadow work, the occult, sexuality, and all taboo subjects. There may be a de-stigmatisation towards female pleasure and sex work, and other taboo subjects such as rape, death, suicide, miscarriage, abortion, divorce, periods, money, mental health, addiction, grief, abuse, and more. Concepts of shared resources and joint finances, such as taxes and government subsidies, as well as power, will also come into play. Some of these themes, not all, are also associated with the 8th House.
A healthy balance will come in harmonising the dark and the light, in venturing into the abyss and processing what we find, but also coming up to simply feel the fresh breeze and enjoy the sun on our skin. It can’t be shadow work all the time, sometimes we just need to eat a juicy peach and nap all day.
Likewise, we can’t get solely lost in the escapism of worldly pleasures (escapism on its own already being a possibility with Jupiter and Neptune in Pisces), and never bringing the meaty substance back down to earth to be chewed on from time to time. Taurus and Scorpio represent the dance between sexuality and sensuality, what’s mine and what’s yours, the subterranean and the superficial, physical and metaphysical, and where do we find the middle ground?
As the Moon is also exalted in Taurus, and therefore in fall in Scorpio, meaning she is not naturally comfortable here. This could bring up issues dealing with concepts of fear and scarcity, of abundance and safety, and a need to consciously strive harder to release those Scorpionic aspects that are ready to be let go, while stepping into the higher octaves of Taurus (and not vice versa).
Taurus-Scorpio in your Chart
Within all of this, you can look to see where the Lunar Nodes fall in your Chart. This will give you a key indicator for where these themes may show up in your life for you personally, or which areas may be activated/experience a purging. Where can you simplify? Both being Fixed Signs, we can naturally expect more resistance in these areas of our Chart to change. Look to build with Taurus and release with Scorpio. If you are a Scorpio or Taurus Rising (in particular), congrats! You’ll be undergoing some key, foundational transformations! As a Sagittarius Rising, I can tell you it is wonderful and intense all at the same time, but at the end of it, you’ll be so much more yourself than you ever were.
